Rahua
Rahua (pronounced: Ra-wa) joined us in June 2020, although I had had my eye on the brand for so long. Some things just take time :-) Rahua was founded by a New York hairdresser, Fabian Lliguin. Several years ago, he traveled to the Amazon as an environmental activist to support the indigenous people in asserting their territorial rights. (He is Ecuadorian himself and descended from the Quechua.) As a hair expert, he immediately noticed the beautiful, long, and shiny hair of the indigenous women – a result, as he learned, of the centuries-old tradition of treating hair with Rahua oil. Long story short: when he successfully tested the oil back in New York, he was hooked: dry hair became supple and nourished, colored hair remained shiny longer, and irritated scalps were soothed.
To this day, the oil is produced by the Quechua-Shuar tribe, in the traditional way, as it has been extracted for generations. Over 500 families now earn their livelihood from it. The ingredients are not cultivated on farms but grow wild. For example, Palo Santo oil is only obtained from fallen wood; no trees are harvested for it. At the same time, the area continues to be reforested. I'm just saying: an incredible CO2 footprint!
In summary: a top hair care line for shiny, healthy hair. Vegan, paraben-free, sulfate-free, gluten-free, and of course, cruelty-free. And many other companies could learn a thing or two from its corporate philosophy.
